During graduate school I worked as a mental health aid at a residential treatment center. I have worked as a counselor within both the public and private rehabilitation setting assisting individuals with various kinds of disabilities. I have also worked in a day treatment-partial hospitalization program for adults with mental illness. Finally, and with no pun intended, I have worked with in both the funeral and cemetery industries assisting individuals and families on a pre-need basis. I have lived with an invisible disability for over 40 years. I have also been in my own recovery process from the impact of the disease of “ism’s” through my involvement in ACOA, CoDa and Ala-non through working the 12 steps adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous for over 21 years.
I consider myself to be a spiritual person, but not a religious individual. I share from my experience, strength and hope and present information to empower the reader to live life on life’s terms. On a core level I believe that our circumstances are at the foundation upon which we build our internal house. Our circumstances are not meant to keep us down, but they are provided to build us up. As we learn from the circumstances that are presented to us — as empowered beings – we create the experiences that enable us to take advantage of the opportunities that become available through living life on life’s terms. Opportunities subsequently become the essential building blocks that empower you and I to build through our experiences. Knowledge is then tempered by the experience that comes through the opportunities that are given to us, which in turn becomes the wisdom that guides you and I to our destinies.
In the coming year I believe that Second Chance to Live will continue to provide encouragement, motivation and empowerment. I believe the destiny of Second Chance to Live will open new doors and I will be speaking at a location close to where you live. I believe the message of hope proclaimed through Second Chance to Live will echo globally. Consequently, I believe you will be set free to dream again.
“If you advance confidently in the direction of your dreams and endeavor to life the life you have imagined… You will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau
