What is the measure of happiness? Am I chasing after illusions of grandeur? Has magical thinking set me up to be disappointed? Have I allowed other people to dictate when and how to find joy? Do I believe there is a metaphorical rainbow that–if found– will lead me to a pot of joy? Have I bought into another person’s dream and in so doing lost sight of mine? Am I trying to keep pace with their dream to find joy? Have I allowed their dream to undermine my vision? Is the measure of my joy dependent on some measure of success? Do these notions only draw me away from what is distinctly calling to me?
The answers to these questions will clear my vision. I will clearly see that joy is measured in the experienced now. Satisfaction will be grasped. My delight will come naturally and I will be satisfied. Illusions will no longer be a distraction, nor will I be persuaded by conformity. I will no longer postpone joy for some reserved time or event in the future. Instead, I will celebrate in the appointed now. I will relish in the beauty set before my eyes. If I can not see any beauty, I will slow my pace and breath. With this breath, I will be reminded that I am alive. Being alive gives me the opportunity to revel in the present moment.
With this being said, I believe that joy is connected to how I perceive what is set before my eyes. Therefore, I am free to chose joy.
