Second Chance to Live

Empowering the Individual, Not the Brain Injury

A Message of Hope for our Wounded Warriors

October 4, 2007 By Second Chance to Live

You may be lying in a hospital bed with thoughts of dread swirling in your head my friend. You may doubt life itself. Some of your “friends” may have deserted you. You may be angry and bitter with life and that is OK. I have been there too my friend. I am a traumatic brain injury survivor and I have lived with an invisible disability for over 40 years. Please read My Journey thus Far.

Through my process I have learned that more will be revealed with time.

Through my process I have benefited from valuable lessons. I share my experience strength and hope as a traumatic brain injury survivor throughout Second Chance to Live. Please review my Site Map. Because I remained in a coma for 3 weeks and was confined to a hospital bed I can share some good news with you. The dark clouds you are experiencing now will part and you will dream again. You will experience the dawn of a new day.

You will rise again. You will find an inner strength. You will find courage. You will experience hope. You will grow stronger with each new day. You will feel your feelings and you will heal. Although you may be experiencing sadness now, you will find a new freedom and a new happiness. Your courage will return and you will experience serenity. You will learn to thrive. You will own a new sense of meaning and purpose.

You will find yourself being empowered to fulfill your destiny. You will learn to trust the process, a loving God and yourself. You will come to believe that your circumstances are not meant to keep you down, but that they are gifts given to build you up. You will learn to live life on life’s terms. The eyes of your heart will open and you will seize the day. You will fulfill your destiny and you will be a light to your generation.

I am so pleased to have been given the link to this wonderful site. I am a brain injury survivor. I am very functional in my daily life as I work in the social services field and I am earning my Masters Degree. On the inside only I know the pain of my invisible disability. My memoray lapses, inabilty to figure sales amounts or change at the store .. and social fears etc. I will explore this site and hope to learn from it and use it as a source of ongoing strength and motivation for me and hope that I can inspire someone else too!
    Thank you

    Hi Mary Ann,
Thank you so very much for taking the time to leave a comment. You are a blessing to me. I can definitely identify with your pain Mary Ann. I experience the same frustration. In many ways I feel very alone because I am a very high functioning traumatic brain injury survivor. I wrote an article that you may find to be helpful. https://secondchancetolive.org/2007/04/18/the-power-of-identification/ In my experience I have not found many high functioning brain injury survivors. I applaud your determination to succeed with your Master’s Degree. I had some set backs during graduate school because of my learning disability, which at the time I had no idea was related to my traumatic brain injury. I have written several posts that you may find to be helpful on this front Mary Ann. https://secondchancetolive.org/2007/08/14/my-struggle-living-with-an-invisible-disability/ is a 4 part series and then https://secondchancetolive.org/2007/08/21/having-an-invisible-disability-%e2%80%93-the-consequence-of-denying-my-reality%e2%80%94part-1/ is a 2 part series. Not all of the titles in my site map have disability or brain injury in their titles, however the information that I present in those posts have principles that you may find helpful. If you read my 3 part series, https://secondchancetolive.org/2007/02/18/my-journey-thus-far/ you will gain further insight into my process.

Thank you again for your encouragement and kind words. Please share Second Chance to Live with others who could benefit from my experience, strength and hope.

Have a simply amazing Friday Mary Ann.

    God bless you!

    Craig
