Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. In the past 3 parts of this series I shared with you how I struggled to find my place — in a vocation and a career. I shared with you that I needed to face my denial and the denial of family and friends before I could begin to accept myself as a traumatic brain injury survivor who could not maintain gainful employment.
I needed to learn how to accept myself as a man with a traumatic brain injury survivor, who because of my deficits, limitations and invisible disability could not maintain gainful employment. I needed to move forward.
I shared with you that I discovered — that my disappointment and discouragement occurred to coax me forward. I shared with you that I discovered that my pursuits and endeavors prepared my way. I shared with you that my disappointment, discouragement, endeavors and pursuits all provided critical pieces of information. I shared with you that I discovered that none of my experiences had been wasted.
Consequently, I would encourage you to not give up on your process.
I would encourage you to not give up on you process, a loving God or yourself. Grieve your losses, address your denial and the denial of your family and friends and then move forward. Get all the information that you can. Take interest inventories, aptitude tests and personality assessments. Take classes and pursue degrees — as you are able. Pursue your passions. Develop your skills, talents and abilities. Pursue your dreams. And keep learning.
