Dual Diagnosis, Brain Injury, Shame, Codependency and ACOA Related Issues
Family Histories
Family histories, such as dysfunction in your family, an alcohol or substance abuse concern in a family member or a family secret that has been denied all affect brain injury recovery. To be able to recover in my brain injury I needed to address the impact of shame, codependency and the family disease. The dis-ease and unrest that affected my ongoing brain injury recovery process in my mind, body, spirit, soul and emotions.
To be able to grow in awareness, acceptance and the ability to take action
Though my ongoing recovery process I discovered how shame, codependency and ACOA related issues impacted my recovery process. Not only did I have to learn how to accept what I could not change (the impact of my brain injury and invisible disability), I also needed to become aware of how shame, codependency and family of origin issues affected my life, well-being and relationships in recovery.
Needed to Grow in Awareness
I found that I needed to grow in awareness, to be able to accept what I could not change, to discover that I could do differently. Do differently to be able to move forward in my brain injury recovery process. Throughout Second Chance to Live, in my articles, video presentations, discussion/keynote presentations and my Books on Amazon I reveal what I discovered.
Discovered that helped me to understand and accept myself as an individual living with the impact of a brain injury and an invisible disability. Discovered what helped me to grow in awareness of how shame, codependency and family of origin issues got in the way of my brain injury recovery process. Discovered what helped me in my brain injury recovery and my family of origin recovery process that gave me the ability to recover in my mind, body, spirit, soul and emotions.
Second Chance to Live Offers
Second Chance to Live offers hope to individuals living with a dual diagnosis. Individuals, like myself who are in a recovery process from living with the impact of a brain injury, as well as, shame, codependency and ACOA related issues. I created Second Chance to Live on February 6, 2007 to share what I learned about my brain injury and my family of origin related issues. To make this information readily available, on an assortment of topics, I have written 18 Books, that are available on Amazon.
I have also created 30 discussion and keynote presentations that I have spoken from remotely 150 times throughout the United States. Below are links to both these presentations and books. These books and presentations encourage a recovery process from the impact of a brain injury, shame, codependency and family of origin issues.
A Diagnosis is Only and Event
I believe that any diagnosis is only an event, not an identity. My focus is to encourage and empower the individual, not the diagnosis. Per my experience, I have been living with the impact of a traumatic brain injury, an invisible disability, in addition to growing up with the affects of being blamed, shamed and scapegoated. In one of my presentations I speak to what I call 12 Action Steps. I adapted these 12 Actions Steps from the 12 Steps many recovery programs use.
A Way Out
Adapted them specifically for people living with brain injuries and the effects of shame, codependency and ACOA related issues. Below is a link to the 12 Action Steps. In my presentations and eBooks, I share what I have learned and helped me to apply these 12 Action Steps. My presentations and eBooks provide information that offer and encourage hope.
