Second Chance to Live

Empowering the Individual, Not the Brain Injury

Brain Injury, Neuropsychological Evaluations, Self Esteem, Self Worth and Value

July 14, 2020 By Second Chance to Live

Brain Injury, Neuropsychological Evaluations, Self Esteem, Self Worth and Value
Brain Injury, Neuropsychological Evaluations, Self Esteem, Self Worth and Value

Neuropsychological Evaluations are Guides, not Definitions of Self-esteem, Self-worth or Self-value.  You are not your brain injury.

Event

In 1967 I sustained an open skull fracture, with right frontal lobe damage, severe brain bruise, brain stem involvement. In 1968 2 EEGs, a neuropsychological evaluation.

Results

The results from these tests revealed that I was not expected to succeed beyond high school academically.

Event

In 1993 the Florida Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (as a client, while still working as a voc rehab counselor) an EEG and a neuropsychological evaluation.

Results

The results from these tests showed that I had succeeded far beyond all reasonable expectations.

Event

After a long history of getting and losing jobs, 3 Applications for SSDI with the Social Security Administration and 2 Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Evaluations (Florida Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and the North Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation)

Results

I was declared disabled and deemed to be unemployable.

Event

I kept looking for a way (s) to use my gifts, talents and abilities in ways that would work for me, despite being told I was disabled and unemployable

Results

I created Second Chance to Live after 7 more years of searching to find a way that would work. See my page: Self-Advocacy Resources for Ongoing Brain Injury Recovery Empowering the Individual, not the brain injury.

Self-Advocacy Resources for Ongoing Brain Injury Recovery Empowering the Individual, not the brain injury

Event

Whatever diagnosis or prognosis you may have been given is not the end of the story. What you have been told you have or how you may be limited.

Results

Don’t give up searching for a way to use your gifts, talents and abilities in ways that will work for you. Don’t let test results or prognosis’s limit you

The Importance of Spirit, Soul and Emotions in Brain Injury Recovery

“Sunrise over the ocean viewed from inside a wooden boat with a steering wheel. Title reads ‘The Importance of Spirit, Soul and Emotions in Ongoing Brain Injury Recovery.’ A glowing head silhouette with a heart and brain network highlights qualities such as awareness, trust, discernment, healing, wholeness, resilience, integration, and meaning. Signs read ‘Mind,’ ‘Body,’ and ‘Spirit, Soul and Emotions.’ A stone reads ‘Not driven by fear. Guided by discernment.
