Brain injury can leave us suicidal and wishing that we had never been born.
That people would be better off, if we were no longer alive and in their lives.
That our struggle to make sense of our lives and well being seems pointless.
But there is Hope
Suicide is a Permanent Solution for a Temporary Problem — More Will Be Revealed. Don’t Give Up!
A Movie with a Message of Hope
During the Christmas holiday season a classic movie, It’s A Wonderful Life, is shown on on network TV. In the movie we see how George Bailey reacts after the death of his father and a series of events.
Reacting to events by considering suicide through jumping off of a bridge.
As he ponders whether to jump off of the bridge another man appears. This man, Clarence, jumps into the water and George jumps in to save him. As they dry off in a room, George finds out the Clarence is an angel. He tells Clarence that he wished he was never born.
Clarence then proceeds to show George what events would have occurred if he had not been born. After Clarence shows all the loses that would have occurred, George runs back to the bridge to find Clarence to beg to have his life back.
Don’t Give Up on Your Miracle
Lesson Gained
The movie points out to me, I don’t have the big picture.
Only a loving God has the big picture. He knows how the dots will connect forward.
Our lives are infinitely valuable, otherwise we would not still be here on planet Earth.
You and I are gifts to our world. Let us not cut short the profound impact that our lives can have on others.
And like George Bailey
And like George, let us stay encouraged. Let us trust the process and a loving God with the outcomes of our footwork.
Although I may have fear of what might be, like George Bailey; I need to remember that life makes sense as I trust the process.
Trust that the “dots: will connect forward and that more will be revealed in time. Don’t focus on fear, but on the possibilities to be revealed.
Quotes of Encouragement
“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” Carl Rogers
“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” Golda Meir
“Every single Pixar film, at one time or another, has been the worst movie ever put on film. But we know. We trust our process. We don’t get scared and say, ‘Oh, no, this film isn’t working. John Lasseter
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path.” Steve Jobs
