After the decision was made to discharge me I made arrangements to be picked up by a friend. I was happy to be going home but not quite sure if I was ready, because that I did not believe I was well enough to go home. After I arrived home I took care of some business, spent some time on the computer and then decided to take a nap because I developed horrible eye strain in my left eye.
Approximately an hour and 15 minutes into my nap, I got up to use the bathroom.
Upon walking into the bathroom I looked into the mirror to see that my left eyelid had completely covered my left eye. My heart sank because knew that I needed to get back to the hospital — as something was very wrong with my eye. With one eye able to see I frantically collected items that would be needed at the hospital, called a family member and then dialed 911.
After arriving at the hospital via an ambulance I once again waited to be triaged through the emergency department. Next, I was directed to another department — Diagnostics — where I was seen by a doctor who made the decision to readmit me to the hospital. After being assigned and then taken to my room I got into bed and waited to be seen by a nurse. My second admission began on the evening of Thursday, August 21, 2008.
After being re-admitted to the hospital on Thursday, August 21 IV antibiotics and steroids were resumed to fight the infection. The Dr.’s also ordered another CT scan. The CT scan took place on Friday, August 22. The results from the CT scan showed that the infection was still present and even growing. Late Friday afternoon my Ear, Nose, and Throat Dr. came into my hospital room to tell me that I would need to have surgery.
