After waiting for several more hours the surgeon came into my room to let me know that in order to do the surgery most effectively he would need to use special equipment. The surgeon went on to tell me that the special equipment and technician to run that equipment would not become available until Monday, August 25 sometime after lunch.
Over the weekend I continued to receive additional IV antibiotics, steroids, and other medications. Sunday, August 24 around 11:30 pm I was taken to have another CT scan done on my sinus’s and left eye orbit.
Monday, August 25 morning came and went and then at 12:30 PM Monday afternoon my nurse informed me that my scheduled surgery had been canceled. Apparently, the CT scan from the previous evening showed significant improvement which indicated that surgery was no longer needed to remove the infection / abscess. As you might imagine I was very happy to hear the news.
On Tuesday, August 26 the team of Dr.’s met with me in my hospital room. The Dr.’s told me that they wanted to slowly transition me from IV antibiotics to oral antibiotics while at the same time taper me off of the dosage of steroids that had been a part of my IV medication regimen. The Dr.’s subsequently decided to keep me in the hospital for another 6 days.
On August 28, Thursday I started being transitioned from IV antibiotics to by mouth antibiotics, while at the same time having the oral steroids dosages tapered. This morning, Sunday, August 31 I am scheduled to undergo another CT scan to determine the continuing effectiveness of the by oral antibiotics. I have been told that if the CT scan shows that the infection is gone, then the Dr.’s plan on discharging me tomorrow, Monday, September 1.
