Please read Traumatic Brain Injury and You –Part 1 before reading the below installment. Thank you.
You are created for greatness. You are on a wonderful journey. You are very capable. You have power over your attitude. You have power over your perspective. You do not have to be bullied by debilitating guilt and debilitating shame. You have the power to choose. You can dare to be you. You can thrive. You can talk, trust and feel. You are wonderfully you. You can practice healthy self-care. You don’t have to hide. You can believe in yourself. You can follow your bliss. You can dream very big. You can feel confident and secure. You can take advantage of your opportunities. You can experience a new freedom. You can experience a new zest for living. You can live life on life’s terms. You can live with serenity. You can define your world.
You may be slower than some, but you will arrive on time. You may have a disability, but you are not limited by the ignorance of some. You may be sad, but you will rise out ashes of your disappointments. You may have stumbled and fallen, but you can learn from your pain. You may not be able to change yesterday, but you can start fresh today. You may feel confused at times, but you do not have to lean on your own understanding. You may be downcast, but you are not forsaken. You may have fallen down, but you can get up. You may be tired, but you do not have to give up. You may have been afraid, but now you can live with courage and hope. You may have been in the dark, but now you can walk in the light.
I would encourage you to sit down with a pen and a piece of paper. After you get comfortable start writing. As you write, reflect on how you see yourself after reading the above “you” changed to “I” statements. You may need to read and reflect upon what you have read several times before you are able to own the meaning behind the affirmations. As you are able to own the meaning behind the statements you will see yourself in a different light. That light will lead you to an array of possibilities you did not know existed.
After you complete above exercise, leave me a comment. Tell me how you were impacted by the above exercise. I look forward to hearing from you. You are a Gift to your world!

I too am a survivor of TBI, injured in an auto accident about 15 mos, ago. Never heard of TBI! I finally figured out that people I came into contact with perceived me as “normal”. At first I considered this a detriment because I was wobbly on my feet and it would not take much to knock me down. THEN, I realized what a wonderful advantage because of the way I looked, people would not pity me. I certainly had enough to deal with without overcoming pity. Attitude does make lemonade out of lemons! We will be able to live happy lives and because of what has happened to me, I am better able to understand others. In fact, some of my earlier recollections about a month after the accident, I can remember telling my nursing staff that I would like to write a book to explain why you look “normal” but aren’t. I am now coming out of a stupor and hope to help others who have experirnced TBI. Bless you for you site.

Good morning. I spoke to you a little while ago about my daughter Kylah. At 16, she is still trying to understand why her life has been changed and why does she have to be different. The affirmations you shared helped her feel more “normal” in her day to day life. She is still in the anger phase of dealing with the TBI since it is just showing itself now, 4 years after the actual injury. I printed off the affirmations and your words of thought for her to look at and reread when she is ready. You could see the physical change in her face, from anger to understanding, as I read each of them to her. Being able to call you a friend allows her to realize that she to can achieve the moon if she works hard! You are greatly appreciated!
