Yesterday I attended a support group meeting. When asked if anyone had a topic one individual shared that they had been struggling over the past week.
The individual went on to share that as the week unfolded they realized that events had triggered some childhood fears.
As members shared their experience, strength and hope I was reminded that I could change the way I think about my fear (s).
I was reminded that I could change the way that I think about my fear (s) so that I don’t feel stuck.
Although the individual realized that they were no longer a child they had the awareness that the events of the week triggered childhood fear (s).
Maybe Our Experience Too
Although we are no longer children, current events (as with what my friend experienced) can be triggered by childhood fear (s).
Such events that can leave you and I unknowingly bewildered and confused.
Such events can leave you and I feeling stuck like a “deer in the headlights of a car” unable to move.
Such events can leave you and I feeling helpless.
In feeling helpless we can buy into the notion that we have no choices.
As the discussion moved around the circle I was reminded that I have choices. Choices when I feel stuck and helpless.
I can change the way I think about my fears.
I can shift into practicing life without my fears.
I am not a victim. I am a problem solver.
By examining and getting to the root of our fear (s) (when we were children) can begin to change the way we think about those fears.
And as an adult, we can begin look at those fears in a different way.
A way in which we can shift into practicing life without our fears
This too is a process
By looking at our fear (s) in a different way we can see our circumstances (current events when triggered) as a way to be empowered.
Hope — A Way Out
If I can’t change my circumstances, I can change the way I think about my circumstances.
By accepting the things that I can not change, I am given the ability to realize the vastness of my choices.
Maybe Not Overnight
Although these choices may not become apparent overnight, our fear (s) no longer have to keep you and I stuck.
Today’s Thought
In the event that you find yourself stuck because of fear I would encourage you to examine those fears. Are present day events in reality triggering the fears of your younger self? Although we may have been unable to do anything about those fears as a child, as an adult we can do something different. By realizing that we have choices we can take care of ourselves. Our fears are our fears.
No one is to blame, as blame does no one any good.
As an adult, we can own our power with a loving God’s help and direction. As an adult, we can make empowering choices. In the process, we can change the way that we think about our fear (s). We can shift to live our lives without those fears. We no longer have to feel like victims because of our fears. Instead, we can see ourselves as problem solvers.
If we don’t like something, we can change it. If we can not change it, we can change the way we think about it.
