Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. Thank you. Recently I changed my Facebook Cover photo. In this picture I included a quote that has been and continues to be an encouragement and a source of inspiration. I have shared this quote in many of the articles that I wrote and published on Second Chance to Live in the early years. The quote: “If you advance confidently in the direction of your dreams and endeavor to live the life that you have imagined…you will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau
I have been thinking about the quote and the words, “If you advance confidently in the direction…” The word “if” speaks to me in that I have to be committed to the process. If I do not commit myself to the process, my journey will end. Through being committed to process, a door continues to stay open to me. The word “advance” reminds me to take action, to continue to take action. Action, that is intentional and focused. With reference to another word in the quote, I have been doing research on the word confidently. One body of thought is that confidence occurs over a period of time with repeated attempts and successes. Confidence building is therefore an ongoing process.
Advancing confidently implies that I not give up in the face of seeming discouragement, setbacks or adversity.
Endeavoring to live the life that I have imagined means that I have a vision and a mission that I am committed to achieve with intentional purpose. Although I may not know how all the “working pieces” of my experience are going to fit together, I stay committed to the process. By staying committed with intention — by trusting the process and a loving God — to the vision and mission at hand, I believe that my efforts will result in a success serendipitously. Hope, then opens the door to endless possibilities as I take part in the process — one day at a time — as I move in the direction of my dreams and endeavor to live the life that I have imagined.
