“It is not as important as what happens to us, as how we respond to what happens to us.” Craig J. Phillips

“Research your own experience. Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless and add specifically your own creation.” Bruce Lee

“Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Albert Einstein

Overview

I am 67 years old. I was in an automobile accident and sustained an open skull fracture with right frontal lobe damage, a severe brain bruise, with brain stem involvement in 1967 at the age of 10. I was not expected to live the night of the accident. I remained in a coma for 3 weeks.

I obtained my master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1990 from the University of Kentucky. I created Second Chance to Live on February 6, 2007 to answer a call that never came. I have been engaged in answering this call for the past 17 1/2 years.

My mission and vision is to encourage my readers and listeners to not give up by pursuing their goals and dreams. Pursuing their goals and dreams through creating hope in their ongoing brain injury recovery process  through their mind, body, spirit, soul and emotions.

Holistic Brain Injury Recovery

Second Chance to Live is a website that provides information and resources to encourage hope in the lives of individuals who are living with the impact of a brain injury. This information and the resources can benefit anyone who may be facing any kind of adversity in their lives. We believe that a brain injury or any adversity is an event, not a destiny. The event does not define them. We focus on an ongoing holistic approach (body, soul, spirit, mind and emotions). An approach that encourages the individual to own their power by taking systematic and deliberate steps to create. Steps to create hope in their lives through creating new neural pathways and brain reorganization.

What is shared through out Second Chance to Live is forged through lived experience over the past 57 years. My open skull fracture occurred in 1967 at the age of 10. After my external wounds healed the impact of my traumatic brain injury became invisible. Because little was known about brain injuries and invisible disabilities, I grew up navigating life apart from guidance and direction. What I have created through my articles, video presentations, keynote presentations and eBooks comes from my “boots on the ground” lived experience. What I share and model has given me the ability to achieve far beyond what I dreamed possible in my mind, body, spirit, soul and emotions.

Resources to Create Hope

May what I share through my articles, keynote presentations and eBooks inspire you to create to achieve far beyond what you dream possible in your brain injury recovery.

The Importance of Spirit, Soul and Emotions in Brain Injury Recovery

“Sunrise over the ocean viewed from inside a wooden boat with a steering wheel. Title reads ‘The Importance of Spirit, Soul and Emotions in Ongoing Brain Injury Recovery.’ A glowing head silhouette with a heart and brain network highlights qualities such as awareness, trust, discernment, healing, wholeness, resilience, integration, and meaning. Signs read ‘Mind,’ ‘Body,’ and ‘Spirit, Soul and Emotions.’ A stone reads ‘Not driven by fear. Guided by discernment. Living in wholeness.’ The image includes the Second Chance to Live Trauma-Informed Care AI Collaboration Model™ and the name Craig J. Phillips MRC, BA.”
