Yesterday, I wrote the article Adapting and Developing New Neural Pathways and Brain Re-Organization. In the article I shared that I have had to change what I am doing to work on creating new neural pathways and brain reorganization.
I shared that because of tendentious in my elbows I am not able to do some thing I have come to love to do: work with double (sinawali drills) escrima / Kali sticks to develop hand/eye coordination, agility, awareness, precision, accuracy and endurance.
Training with single and double sticks has also provided a way for me to express my creativity, which keeps my mind engaged in the process of executing strikes, movement through the center line and transitions with the placement of my hands/ feet.
Although I have found myself disappointed about not being able to continue with my stick training, I have been encouraged by a lesson that I learned through past experience. When things are not going the way in which I would like them to go,
I am being protected from what I can not see or understand at the present time. In essence, I am being set up — by what I is not going my way — instead of being set back.
Although events may seem to be “bitter” to me and unwelcome, the lesson taught me; that I would not have otherwise considered the existence of possibilities.
In essence, if the events that seemed “bitter” had not occurred at the time, I would have ignored or discounted the possibilities.
Without the “bitter” I would not experience hope.
“When events do not go my way, I have found through experience; that I am given the opportunity to consider previously ignored possibilities.” Craig J. Phillips MRC, BA
So, instead of focusing on what I can not do I realized several benefits. I believe that a loving God is using the door that closed — for the time being of not being able to engage with my elbows — to protect me from what I can not see or comprehend.
I don’t have the BIG picture. Secondly, the door that has closed — for the time being of not being able to engage my elbows — has given me the time to investigate other ways in which I can train and develop new neural pathways and brain reorganization.
So instead of focusing on what I can not do, I am able to explore new ways to enhance my well-being. With my awareness, I am able to shift from being discouraged and disappointed to being encouraged by what I am going to discover.
“My favorite words are possibilities, opportunities and curiosity. I think if you are curious, you create opportunities, and then if you open the doors, you create possibilities.” Mario Testino
Today’s Thought
In the event that you have events in your life that have changed the way in which you like to engage in life, be encouraged my friend. Realize that you are being protected from things that you may not be able to see at the present time.
Look for ways in which you can do things differently to create, fresh possibilities in your life. Look for opportunities that these new possibilities will open for you, to enhance your well-being. My encouragement to you is to look at the possibilities of what you can do, NOW.
Don’t focus on what you can not accomplish because of what you can not change. By focusing on possibilities that exist, instead of on what you may not be able to do NOW, you will be able to trade discouragement and disappointment for hope.
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed-door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” Helen Keller
