Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live. Thank you for deciding to stop by to visit with me. You are always welcome around my table. In a prior article I shared with my readers that on November 8, 2008 I completed an 8 hour long progress check. For more information please read, One Step Closer to My Black Belt in the Mixed Martial Arts. The completion of the progress check qualified me to be considered to enter the next phase of my training to test for my black belt. On December 1 my Sensei — instructor — met with me and shared his decision to invite me to begin the next phase of training — the 10 month black belt cycle.
On January 5, 2009 Sensei met with the brown belts who passed the progress check on November 8 and been selected to enter the next phase — the black belt cycle.
During this meeting our Sensei handed out the note book that included the requirements and expectations to be completed during the next 10 months. As I read through the list of requirements I found myself feeling a bit overwhelmed. Although I initially felt overwhelmed by the requirements I have been able to put the process into perspective. I do not have to complete all of the requirements in today. I have 10 months to complete the requirements and I can stay in the day. I am empowered in / by the process because I can take the process one requirement or expectation at a time.
My part will be to commit myself to the process — one day / one requirement at a time. By doing so the black belt cycle process will be manageable.
In life you may find yourself overwhelmed because of the road that is set before you my friend. You many want to accomplish a goal in your rehabilitation process or to reach the fulfillment of a dream, however you may have convinced your self that “it” is simply out of your grasp. My encouragement to you is to not give up on your process. The journey will be worth the effort that you put into your process. If you take your process one step at a time and determine not give up on your goal or your dream you will move forward. Although the process may be to frustrating at times — and you may feel like giving up — stick with the process.
Please read Part 2 of 2 for context. Thank you.
