Living with a brain injury can lead you and I to focus on symptoms. Symptoms based on a diagnosis and a prognosis. In the process, we may find ourselves distracted.
Distracted by these symptoms, instead of focusing on our ability to own our power. Owning our power by looking for solutions to improve the quality of our lives.
This morning during my morning meditation I was reminded that I have more power than I may be owning. Power to improve the quality of my life and well-being.
As an individual living with the impact of a brain injury and an invisible disability I can choose to focus on solutions, not on symptoms. I can choose to own my power. Own the power in my mind, body, spirit, soul, and emotions. Own the power in my mind, body, spirit, soul and emotions through solutions, with God’s help and guidance.
In my keynote zoom presentation, “Finding Our Purpose after Brain Injury” I share the good news that we are much more than our brain injury. That our brain injury was merely an event and a “switch” on the railroad of our lives. A “switch” that would point you and I in the direction of our destinies, one day at a time.
I share that, we as individuals living with brain injuries, are not defined by a diagnosis, a prognosis, a label, or a stereotype. We are not defined by and do not have to be limited because of stigmatization, symptoms, deficits or limitations. That we, as individuals living with brain injuries, are free to define our new normal.
I speak to the need to focus on solutions and not on symptoms, deficits or limitations. I speak to the need to focus on “Why Not Me?”, instead of on “Why Me?”. I speak to owning our power in mind, body, spirit, soul, and emotions with a loving God’s help and guidance. I speak to finding the freedom to use our gifts, talents and abilities in ways that work for us. I speak to running our own race and building on our own lot.
