Yesterday I had an experience, that I would like to share with you. My experience may save you a lot of time and money.
Before you get talked into replacing your transmission, you may only need to have the shifter cable bushing replaced.
My Transmission Stopped Working
Yesterday morning, when I went to shift my car’s automatic shifter into reverse the shifter did not work as it has always before. Actually when I tried to shift it into any gear (drive, reverse or any gear) it would not work. The shifter would just move up and down the choices without locking.
Very Fortunate
I was very fortunate to have several people help to push my car into a parking space. I called my mechanic, who I have been using for several years, and explained the situation to him. He told me that it was probably a shifter cable bushing that needed to be replaced. I was able to have my car towed to the mechanics shop and he inspected the matter.
Upon inspection my mechanic found that only the shifter cable bushing needed to be replaced.
Automatic Shifter Cable Bushing, Not the Whole Transmission
I am grateful that my mechanic is trustworthy and that I did not need a new transmission. That all I needed to have was the transmission’s shifter cable bushing replaced, not the transmission. He had the bushing (looks like a thimble) in stock and after replacing the transmission shifter cable bushing, I was able to shift my car again. Thank God that I have an honest mechanic and not a big expense.
Possibly Save you Time and Money
I share my experience with you to possibly save you a lot of time and money. You may only need to to have your car’s transmission shifter cable bushing replaced, not your car’s whole transmission.
