Recently, I had a great conversation with another rehabilitation counselor. As I have shared, I obtained my master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling in 1990 from the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, Kentucky.
During our conversation she mentioned that organizations and professionals in those organizations may think that over the course of the past 18 years I have just “repackaged” the same information.
During our conversation I shared with her the reasons why I “repackage” and put the information into different formats that I create for Second Chance to Live.
Consequently, professionals, providers and support group leaders; who may not be living with a brain injury, may not understand such a need. Let me share with you the reason why I have “repackaged” the contents offered throughout Second Chance to Live over the course of 18 years.
As rehabilitation counselors we are trained to provide information. Information to individuals we seek to serve to help them to have the best possible outcome. Best possible outcome for them to return to work to create a quality of living.
As I shared during my conversation I have “repackaged” the material in different formats because people learn in different ways. Some learn through watching, some through listening, some through doing and some through a combination of those ways. So I create and provide the information presented through Second Chance to Live in different formats to individuals living with brain injuries.
To offer information to enhance outcomes for individuals living with brain injuries (who learn in different ways) I have done so through:
Writing 2220 articles, creating 462 video presentations, 29 keynote and discussion presentations, 18 eBooks on Amazon and 20 Posters to Encourage and Inspire Hope.
If You are Living with the Impact of a Brain Injury
Although the information may appear redundant, there is a reason. People living with brain injuries have different learning disabilities. So, if you are living with a brain injury and are looking for resources that will help you learn in ways that work for you, Second Chance to Live provides different formats. Different “packaging” or formats that will help you in your ongoing brain injury recovery process.
A brain injury recovery process in mind, body, spirit, soul and emotions.
For Professional and Providers who Sincerely Desire
Second Chance to Live provides hope in different formats. Hope that will also enhance the service delivery of professionals and providers. Professionals and providers who sincerely have a desire to bring long term hope to individuals who are living with brain injury. Hope beyond symptom management and billable hours.
One of the Ways that I have learned to Compensate for my Brain Injury
In my case, I have some short term memory deficits. I have a difficult time learning sequences of information. Through my process and journey living with a brain injury I have discovered a way to compensate. By watching people execute the skill (s) that I would like to learn and breaking down the skill into steps (through repetition) I am able to compensate, learn and become proficient in those skills.
