NOTE:
Since the writing of this article in March 2012 I have discovered something that I would like to share with you. In 2015 a friend of mine, who helped me move from wordpress.com to a managed wordpress website, told me about several websites that offer free photographs and images. The websites are Pexels and Pixabay. Since finding out about these websites I have been using pictures and images to enhance my articles, video presentations and eBooks for Second Chance to Live. Check out both Pexel and Pixabay by clicking on the above highlighted links.
Article written in March 2012 concerning the use of Royalty Free Images
Several month ago, after creating the Second Chance to Live group on Face Book I searched for a picture that would embody what I wanted to communicate through the Second Chance to Live Group. In my research I found a perfect match and uploaded the picture to my computer and then to my Facebook Group. After doing so, I felt led to do some research into the matter of royalty free images. In the process of my research, I found that royalty free images does not mean that the images were free to use, but that I need to pay a licensing fee to use and post the image on my Facebook group page. I wrote an article to share what I learned The Use of Royalty Free Images.
As with Second Chance to Live, I maintain ownership over my creative material that I publish on Second Chance to Live and all of my material is copyright. That is why I include a copyright statement at the bottom of my articles to let people know that all material that is published on Second Chance to Live can not be cannot be copied, reproduced, or distributed in any way without the express, written consent of Craig J. Phillips, MRC, BA All rights reserved. Expressed written permission is required to re-publish material presented on Second Chance to Live Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs CC BY-NC-ND.
My suggestion and recommendation would be to make sure that you have the owner (s) of the material – pictures, poster, saying or otherwise – permission to post and or include on your Face Book Page before you post or publish their material on your Face Book Page or group. If the image is a royalty free image, you may need to pay a licensing fee to be able to use the image on your Face Book page or web site / web log. By not gaining the permission to use the image or by not paying the licensing fee, you could be subject to copyright law and asked to remove the image from your Face Book page or web site / web log or face being sued by the owner of the material.
As a rule, it is always a good idea to contact the owner of the material that you would like to use to gain their permission – BEFORE – uploading and posting the material on your Face Book Page. If you do not have their permission, it is probably a good idea to NOT post or publish the material on your Face Book Page / Group / Web Site or Web Log. I do not share this information to alarm you, but to help you understand what I learned through my wanting to use images / pictures / sayings / or quotes on the internet. Once you have gained the permission of the owner, please make sure that you attribute their ownership to the material by including their name (s) with the material.
You have my permission to share my articles and or video presentations with anyone you believe could benefit, however, I maintain ownership of the intellectual property AND my articles, video presentations and eBooks are not to be considered OPEN SOURCE. Please also provide a link back to Second Chance to Live. In the event that you have questions, please send those questions to me. All questions are good questions. I look forward to hearing from you. Copyright 2007 -2017.
