After signing on today, I opened YouTube. After opening the page, I felt led to watch an interview, of Verne Troyer. Verne Troyer played the character”Mini-Me” in the Austin Powers movies.
While watching the interview, Verne said something to the interviewer that stood out to me. When asked by the interviewer concerning people looking at him because of his dwarfism, Verne said, ”I feel normal, you guys are weird.”
Background
From what Verne shared during the interview, he was/is living with a rare form of dwarfism.
Watching the Interview
As I watched the interview I was drawn by Verne’s endearing personality and his sense of confidence.
As I watched the interview I was reminded by the thought that: “It is not as important what happens to us, but how we respond to what happens to us.”
As I watched the interview, Mr. Troyer exuded a sense of acceptance and empowerment. As I watched the interview, I thought about a quote.
“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” Mark Twain
Instead of being angry because of his physical size and apparent limitations, Verne appeared as large as John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan — 6’5″ and 300lbs) in the movie,”The Green Mile”.
The Decision
In life, we may be presented with a set of circumstances that appear to be limiting and disadvantageous. In life we are faced with how we are going to either react to or respond to what happened or happens to us.
In life we are faced with the decision. The decision of whether we are going to stay disgruntled, embittered and defeated (OR) whether we are going to see our circumstances as an opportunity to be empowered.
The decision of whether we are going to stay stuck or whether we are going to find a way to live our best lives.
Time may be Limited
In the interview, Verne mentioned another individual who lived with the same kind of dwarfism. He said that this man (who also was an actor) died at the age of 72. The interview, which turned out to be his last. Mr. Verne Troyer passed away at the age of 49. Michael Clarke Duncan of The Green Mile passed away at the age of 54.
Today’s Thought
Regardless of our particular set of circumstances, we are all faced with similar decisions.
Are we going to stay stuck, disgruntled, embittered and defeated or are we going to find a way to live our best lives?
Although we may look and feel different we can adopt an attitude similar to Verne Troyer’s attitude.

An attitude that will empower us to move forward and create our best lives, regardless of what other people may say or think about us.
Their expectations or lack of expectations no longer have to dictate our hopes, dreams or our destiny.
