Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live. Thank you for making the decision to stop by to visit with me. Please remember that you are always welcome around my table. In the following series I will share a principle that I am using in my life — because of my experience. My interest is not to draw attention to me, but to share a principle that I use in my life. Let me share some background information.
During the past 3 years I have written articles on not giving up on a dream.
After putting in many hours of training and drilling at a martial arts school, I was given an opportunity. In early November of 2008 I participated in a 8 hour-long progress check with other brown belts to qualify to enter the 10 month-long black belt cycle — that would begin in January 2009. The progress check was very physically demanding. For specifics concerning the progress check please read my article Traumatic Brain Injury — Do not Give Up on Your Dreams — Part 3.
On December 1, 2008 my Sensei — instructor — met with me and told me that I had passed the progress check and would be invited to enter the black belt cycle to begin in January.
On January 1, 2009 I entered the 10 month black belt cycle with anticipation of completing the 10 month-long process and completing the 2 day black belt exam in October 2009. On February 3 — while training at the martial arts school — I hurt my right knee. To make a long story short (er) I met with an orthopedic Dr., underwent an MRI, discovered that I had 2 meniscus tears and that by doing surgery my right knee could become unstable — given the location of the meniscus tears.
Consequently, at the end of March 2009 I made the decision — for the long-term care of my knee (s) — to bow out of the 10 month long black belt cycle. I then met with my Sensei and shared my decision.
Please read Part 2 for context. Thank you.
