In Part 1 of the article I introduced the young woman and her struggle of accepting the reality of being a “cueue”. In Part 1 I shared my struggle in accepting the reality of being a traumatic brain Injury survivor. In Part 2 of the article I spoke to the awakening the young woman experienced when Beverly Crusher said, “You are a cueue. You can do whatever you want to do.” Although the young woman understood what she could no longer do, she began to realize what she could accomplish.
As a traumatic brain injury survivor – you as I have – may be struggling to accept your reality. You – as I have – may be focusing on what you can not do, rather on what you can do because of your deficits and limitation. You – as I have – may believe that you will never realize your hopes and dreams. Consequently, you – as I have – may be asking yourself, “What is the use in having hopes and dreams?” My answer to you is – as I have found for myself – more will be revealed to you in time.
Through accepting my reality I discovered that I could stop fighting against myself. When I stopped fighting against myself I discovered my reality. What I thought was limiting me was in fact empowering my ability.
Consequently, my encouragement to you is to not give up on your process, a loving God or yourself. You will be able to stop fighting against yourself. You will be empowered by what you think is limiting you. You will learn to use your gift, talents and abilities in way that will both fulfill and work for you. You will realize your hopes and dreams in ways that you may never dreamed possible. You will see doors opening for you that you once thought were closed. You will find a new freedom and a new happiness.
“If you advance confidently in the direction of your dreams and endeavor to live the life that you have imagined…you will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau
