Yesterday, I wrote the article What may Be Limiting You — Self-Talk and published the article here on Second Chance to Live. The day before I wrote an article and published an article on Create a Spark of Hope: Not Giving Up by Replacing Negative with Positive Messages. In that article I shared what has helped me to identify and overcome triggers that have fostered negative self talk. I would invite you to read the article after you finish reading this article by clicking on this link: Not Giving Up by Replacing Negative with Positive Messages
What I share in Not Giving Up by Replacing Negative with Positive Messages helped me to grow in awareness and understanding of how my triggers perpetuated negative self-talk. As I grew in my awareness and understanding of my triggers, I began to realize what I had been telling myself were lies. And by gaining awareness and growing in understanding I was slowly able to replace negative scripts and messages with positive and affirming messages. Awareness and understanding also slowly helped me to stop the cycle of the “should of”s’,” “could of”s’ and “would of”s’ that I was doing to myself. Awareness and understanding of my triggers helped me to stop judging my efforts and start celebrating my life as a process and a journey, not a destination.
Awareness and understanding of my triggers helped me stop fighting against myself. Awareness and understanding of my triggers helped me to stop being my own worst enemy and start being my friend.
In addition to the above awareness and understanding I began to see my triggers in a new light. I began to see my triggers as my teachers. As I examined my triggers I slowly began to experience a new freedom. A freedom that was once hidden to me. As I examined my triggers they showed me that life was not being done to me, but for me. My triggers helped me to understand that life was meant to be experienced, not endured. My triggers helped me to chart a new course with my life. My triggers taught me how to be kind to myself, as I was kind to other people. My triggers helped me to realize that I no longer needed to live in a “box” and that I could define my own identity. My triggers revealed to me that I could establish a healthy relationship with hope. My triggers helped and showed me that I could trust the process, a loving God and myself.
My triggers taught me to not give up.
