If you have not already read Part 1 of this article, please do so by clicking on the following link. Thank you. Learning to Accept and Thrive in My Reality Part 1
My journey as a martial artist for the past 15 years or so has helped me to accept my limitations and my reality. I have sought to apply other principles that I have learned and explored as taught by Bruce Lee, “Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own.” What this quote and principle speaks to me is that I need to be open to learning from what I have experienced in life, be willing to recognize and discard what has and does not work for me and modify and adapt to that which now works for me, and use that in such a way that works for me.
As a student of the martial arts I have sought to learn, explore, investigate many skills and styles to enhance my effectiveness as a martial artist. In my life I have also sought to learn, explore, investigate ways to use my gifts, talents and abilities to enhance my ability to be of service. In my process and journey I have grown to recognize and discard what does not work for me – to stop fighting against myself – and have grown in my ability to absorb what is useful. My encouragement to you my friend is that you not allow the obstacles that you may find in your life — events, circumstances and experiences – to obscure the pursuit of your bliss, dreams or your destiny. Although you have been frustrated by what no longer works for you, there are ways that will work for you. Put in the time and energy to explore, learn about and investigate how to use what you can do with what you have, where you are in ways that will work for you. And please do not give up on your process, your self or on a loving God. More will be revealed to you.
