Through my recovery process, I discovered that although people may want to put me in a role or keep me in a denial system, I have a choice. Through exercising my choice, I discovered that I could live far beyond the role and the denial system.
Through my recovery work, I discovered that I needed to do the necessary grief work before I could begin to trust, take risks and make decisions. I discovered that I needed to make peace with myself to be at peace with a loving God. I discovered that I needed to change the way in which I saw my circumstances and experiences. I discovered that I could turn my will and my life over to the care of a loving God.
I discovered that I could have peace in my life by being responsible to, rather than for the people in my life. I discovered that I could keep the focus on myself. I discovered that I could embrace myself as an individual who is living with a brain injury and an invisible disability. I discovered that I could be a kind and loving parent to myself. I discovered that my circumstances were not meant to keep me down, but to build me up.
I discovered that I could pray for the knowledge of Gods will and for the power to carry that out. I discovered that I could let go of the outcomes and trust a loving God with the big picture. I discovered that I could learn from my decisions without placing judgments on those decisions. I discovered that God is often doing for me what I can not do for myself. I discovered that I can trust when doors open and shut for me.
I discovered that I can trust the process, a loving God and myself.
