Living with the impact of a brain injury can have the effect of stripping away our hope. Living with the impact of a brain injury can have the effect of taking away our power.
But there is Hope and Power
Let me share what I discovered
On August 11, 1967, when I was 10 years old, I sustained an open skull fracture and a severe brain injury. Following my brain injury and for many years hope was repeatedly stripped away from me. In the process of hope being stripped away from me, I felt as though I had little power. Hope for the future and power to affect my well-being and my quality of life. Little by little my self-acceptance and self-esteem crumbled under disappointment.
My sense of hopelessness and lack of power continued until I reached a point in time. A point in time when I could no longer deny the impact of my brain injury. A point in time when I stopped trying to be a person not impacted by a brain injury.
With my awareness, came the realization that I could stop fighting against myself. I could start living life on life’s terms. I could begin to find a way that would work for me, instead of trying to make work what I could not make work for me. As started to realize that I could create in ways that would work for me, I grew in hope. As I grew in hope, I began to realize that I possessed tremendous power. The power to create a good life, for myself.
Although living with the impact of a brain injury can strip away hope and leave us feeling as though we have little power there is good news.
The good news is that we can regain hope after a brain injury.
The good news is that we can own our power after a brain injury.
The good news is that a brain injury does not have to limit you or me from pursuing our hopes or dreams.
The good news is that we can live the life we hoped for and we can follow our dreams.
The good news is that we can make life, living with the impact of a brain injury, work for us.
The good news is that we can create a good life for ourselves, in ways that will work for us.
On February 6, 2007, I created Second Chance to Live to share my experience, strength, and hope.I created Second Chance to Live to share what I discovered through my recovery process that gave me hope. As I grew in hope, I discovered that I possessed tremendous power. The power to create hope in my life and the power to live my dreams.
I began writing articles to share what helped me to regain hope and own my power. I then began creating video presentations to share the information with individuals who learn through watching and listening.
I then began creating and publishing eBooks to share my articles and video presentation in a collection.
Since February 6, 2007, I have written 1892 articles, created 423 video presentations and published 12 eBooks to share what helped me regain hope and own my power. After writing, creating and publishing the information I wanted to provide a streamlined way to access the information within my articles, video presentations, and eBooks. To do so I created specific pages and a series of links on those pages. These resources are available to you at no cost or expense.
Although there is no cost to using these resources, they are not to be considered open source. I maintain ownership of the intellectual property. For more information concerning my copyright notice, please click on this link: Copyright Notice. Thank you.
