Second Chance to Live

Empowering the Individual, Not the Brain Injury

Benefits of Neuroplasticity — My Journey and Development using Martial Art Styles — A Video Demonstration

September 7, 2014 By Second Chance to Live Leave a Comment

Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. I am happy to have you around my table. I have not written any articles in the past several weeks because I was visiting family members. In several articles that I wrote prior to leaving on vacation — Neuroplasticity, Small Successes and Learning / Relearning Skill Sets and Martial Arts, Neuroplasticity and Recovering from Brain Injury – I shared the benefits that I gained through using the principle of neuroplasticity.

I shared these articles to encourage you — if you have not already begun — to begin to mirror / duplicate skills that you are able to do in your dominant hand / arm to your non dominant hand / arm / leg. Martial arts does not have to be the way in which you create new neural pathways and brain reorganization. My encouragement to you is to try different ways to find the way that works best for you my friend.

Several week ago; on August 22, 2014, a friend of mine kindly used his camera phone to record the demonstration that I was giving to benefit several interested individual. The video presentation lasts for 1 minute and 30 seconds. In this video presentation I combine different styles — components of western boxing, kali, wing chun and modern arnis — to develop and create new neural pathways and brain reorganization for both my dominant and non dominant hands / arms. To give me the ability to move / use my hands, arms and legs in new ways. I do so to create new large motor and fine motor skills.

To watch this video presentation, please click on this link: Benefits of Neuroplasticity — My Journey and Development using Martial Art Styles.

Note: I have been training and drilling in martial arts 4-5 times a week 40 -60 minutes each session for the past 16 -17 years. In my experience, I have found that persistence and tenacity has given me the ability to accomplish things that I previously dreamed impossible.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT: I am 57 years old. I continue to build upon what I have previously learned. It is because of this persistence and tenacity that I am able to put these skills together. You are never too old to use the principle of neuroplasticity to develop and create new neural pathways and brain reorganization. To create large motor and fine motor skills and abilities in your hands / arms and legs beyond what you ever dreamed possible. To accomplish things that you previously dreamed impossible. Start slow, but finish.

As you listen to, watch or read my articles and questions come to mind, please send those questions to mind. All questions are good questions. In the event that you would like to leave a comment, I would love to hear from you.To do so, please use the below contact form. I will respond to your comments and questions.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great day.

Craig
