Empowering the Individual, Not the Brain Injury

Living with a Traumatic Brain Injury and the Grieving Process — Part 1 Video Presentation

December 7, 2013 by Second Chance to Live Leave a Comment

Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. In May of 2008, I wrote the above article to share what I found to be essential in my process. Until I did the grief work I was unable to move beyond the deficits and limitations my traumatic brain injury presented to me. Today, I would like to start sharing the article with you in video format. Today I will share Part 1 of the article, with subsequent Part (s) of the article in the days to follow. Below is an excerpt from Part 1 of the article:

“Today I want to begin talking about the process of acceptance. Through my process of acceptance, I came to a life changing awareness. I found that I could not begin to accept myself and move on with life until I first made peace with the losses that I experienced because of my traumatic brain injury. In my quest to make peace with those losses I needed to address my sadness. In my experience, I could not just “get over it” without first doing the necessary work.

I needed help to be able to identify and address my sadness and frustration so that I could move beyond my sadness and frustration. I needed to identify what I was experiencing so that I could move beyond what could not be changed.”
