Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. Thank you. For many years I viewed life through the lens of destination. When I get there I will be OK. The problem was that the “when’s” changed which created unrest in me. Because the bar of expectation frequently moved, I had a difficult time celebrating “When”. Because I had a difficult time celebrating “When”, I had a difficult time celebrating the successes that I achieved on the way to the “when’s” as I lived my life.
Because I had a difficult time celebrating the process and the journey, I internalized my inability to achieve the “when’s” in life as a reflection of who I was as an individual. I did so because I was taught and led to believe that the “when’s” or the outcomes were more important than the process or the journey. In my conditioning I found myself driven to be perfect in order to achieve specific outcomes dictated by the when’s in life. Because I was frequently unable to meet specific outcomes, I judged my efforts, my progress and myself as an individual.
I continued on this path until I learned some very important and life changing lessons while training at a martial art school. What I learned — through not achieving belts as quickly as my peers achieved belts – changed my life. I learned that the process and the journey — from one belt to another — is more important than obtaining the belt. I learned that the journey or process is different for each student. I learned that I did not have to be more or further along than I was in my process. I learned that opportunities are given to me, as I am ready in my process.
