Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. As you too may have experienced, life happens. Many times life happens in such a way that leaves me feeling anxious and afraid. For many years of my life I did not know how to resolve my feelings of being anxious and afraid. During those years, I would attempt to resolve my feelings of anxiety and fear by overcompensating or isolation. In my experience, I found that neither one of these strategies worked to resolve my feelings of being anxious and afraid.
Through my recovery process, I listened to how other people processed their feelings of being anxious and afraid. As I listened, I decided to try using the tool that had helped those individuals to help me to sort out why I was feeling anxious and afraid. I began to use a tool that they used to sort out what was leaving them anxious and afraid. In practice, I have found that this tool helps me to connect my heart with my head and my head with my heart. This tool helps me to make peace with what occurs in my life and in the process shows me what I need to do to take care of myself in similar situations.
Last night I had a set of circumstances occur — through an event that I attended – that resulted in my feeling both anxious and afraid. This morning I used the tool. I got a piece of paper and a pen and I started to write about my last nights event and the circumstances that led to my feeling anxious and afraid. Because I have come to realize that I am responsible for my feelings, I know that pointing my finger in anyone’s direction to blame them for my feelings is non-productive. With my understanding, I began to examine what led to my feeling anxious and afraid. I began to examine my powerlessness.
