Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. Recently I shared a spiritual awakening with a group of friends. Let me share that spiritual awakening with you. Thank you. For many years of my life I lived by a series of contingencies. Specifically, I lived by “when” and “if”.
“When” and “if “impacted and stipulated all areas of my life and relationships.
I found that I lived by the “sword” of when and if because I was led to believe that unless my life and relationships looked a certain way I could not be OK. Consequently, I attempted to control every area of my life and my relationships. In my experience, I found that “when” and “if” did not occur in my life and relationships I became discouraged, despondent and disillusioned.
I continued to unconsciously relate to my life and my relationships — through “when” and “if” – until I experienced a spiritual awakening. The spiritual awakening changed the way in which I related to my life and my relationships. What I discovered was that when and if no longer had to dictate whether or not I was OK.
What I discovered was that I could view my life and relationships as a process, instead of as some sort of destination to measure of my worth, value and significance as an individual living with a brain injury.
As I stopped “objectifying” my quality of life by what did or did not happen in my life I was able to stop placing judgments on what did or did not happen in my life. As I stopped judging myself, I found that I was able to see what had and was occurring in my life as an opportunity. An opportunity to experience my life and my relationships as an adventure that would teach me wonderful lessons.
Wonderful lessons to enhance both my life and the lives of the individuals that a loving God would bring into my life.
Today’s thought
As I need to remind myself, my friend, whenever you find your self living life through “when” and “if” stop and remember that life and relationships are about a process and not a destination. Consequently, we don’t have to wait to be OK. We don’t have to base our worth, value or significance on “when” and “if”.
Instead we can live satisfied and fulfilled lives with what is in the NOW.

What an insperation!! I am the mother of a TBI survivor and we have been on this journey since Feb 27, 2009. I only know TBI from the point of a caregiver and I am so inspired by reading the stories of those who live daily with this injury. I do know that if it were not for GOD’s GRACE my Son or I would not be here today. I give thanks everyday and pray for strength to see us thru. Dianna

Hi Dianna,
Thank you so very much for writing to me. I am honored by your time and kindness. Thank you also for sharing with me a little about your daughter with me. My experience has taught me that the matter of living can only be done, one day at a time. I completely agree. If not for the grace of God what would we do. God has the big picture. My experience has also shown that I can not know until I know and that more is revealed with time.
I do not know if you are aware, but I have a Site Map in which there is a list of the articles that I have written to date. I would invite you to visit my Site Map and click on the titles to articles that are listed with in my Site Map to read the articles. I believe both you and your daughter will be able to identify with me. Here is a link to my Site Map Dianna Site Map
As you read my articles and questions arise, please ask. All questions are good questions. I look forward to being of service to both you and your family Dianna.
Have a pleasant and fulfilling day and God bless both you and your family Dianna.
Craig
