Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. Today, I want to share some thing with you that has finally hit home for me. What I mean by finally hitting home is that I realize that I have to face my fear and do it anyway. I realize that I need to move beyond my comfort zone.
Although I have been reluctant to move beyond my comfort zone — in this particular area of my life — I now know that I need to face my fear and do it anyway. I now know that I can not face my fear without practice. l now realize that I can not hope to hit the ball unless I step up to the plate and swing at the ball. With my awareness, I now know that:
I need to start attending more social functions to develop my social skills. I need to place myself in situations that will enhance my observation and communication skills. I need to practice new behaviors. I need to take the risk to be myself in social settings. I need to be willing to learn when I do not pick up on subtleties and social nuances. I need to be willing to ask for help.
In my willingness to explore beyond my comfort “zone” I need to remember several truths. I can not improve my social skills if I do not interact in social situations. With all learning, there is a learning curve. I don’t have to do things perfectly. I can take the risk to be myself. There is no such thing as failure — only opportunity.
Courage is fear that has said it prayers. And as a friend of mine reminded me, if nothing is ventured, nothing will be gained.
Today’s Thought
As my friend and family members encouraged me, so do I encourage you my friend. If there is something that you have been putting off, face your fear and do it anyway.
And when you do, remember these truths. With all learning, there is a learning curve. There is no such thing as failure — only opportunity. You don’t have to do “it” perfectly. Be willing to ask for help.
Courage is fear that has said its prayers. You can take the risk to be your self. You can trust the process. And as a friend of mine reminded me, if nothing is ventured, nothing will be gained.
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Thomas A. Edison creator of the light bulb and many other inventions.
