You are not your brain injury. You are a unique individual who sustained a brain injury. You are a bright and shining star — with gifts, talents and abilities. As you connect with other brain injury survivors — through sharing your experience, strength and hope — you will draw them out of their isolation into the light of hope.
“You don’t have to be a person of influence to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they have taught me.” Scott Adam — American Cartoonist
With the above in mind, please spend some time reaching out to individuals who have sustained brain injuries. Let them know that you are available to them. Let them know what is going on in your life — not only about your appointments with Dr.s and your diagnosis — but what you are experiencing as an individual who sustained a brain injury.
Be vulnerable, take the risk to be honest with one another and reach out to your brothers and sisters. By reaching out to your brothers and sisters and sharing what is going on in your life you will give them permission to share what is going on in their lives. By doing so you will create community.” Craig J. Phillips MRC, BA
And remember, you are not your brain injury. You are the answer to someones prayers. Your ability to encourage, motivate, empower and provide hope to your brothers and sisters has no bounds. And remember, you are not in competition with anyone. Only you can bring forth who you are with a whole life’s cultivation.
“Insist on yourself, never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous half-possession…Do that which is assigned to you, and you can not hope too much or dare too much.” Henry David Thoreau
