Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live. I am happy to see you decided to stop by to visit with me. Earlier this week I had an experience that taught me a life changing lesson. Let me explain the event and then I will share with you what I learned. Because I did not a lot myself enough time to get from my house to an important appointment I felt the pressure to make up time. In the process I found myself engaging in behavior that I am not in the habit of doing.
I sped through several lights as they were turning from yellow to red in my attempt to make up time.
I was very fortunate that I did not get in an accident or receive a ticket from a police officer. After I arrived at my appointment I experienced both remorse for my poor judgment and gratitude for not getting into an accident or being pulled over by a police officer and given a ticket. Through out the evening I asked the God of my understanding to please help me to not run through lights that are turning in the future. I was very adamant with my request so as to avoid an accident or a ticket.
I wanted to do what was right to avoid hurting anyone or myself. I wanted to avoid chaos and anxiety. I wanted to have serenity in my life.
After making the decision and asking for help I had a spiritual awakening. My spiritual awakening helped me to realize that I could take the process one light at a time. I did not have to concern myself with more than one light at a time. With my awareness I could relax and pay attention to the light in front of me. By doing so I celebrate my progress one light at a time. You see I realized that I did not have to be anxious about any other light than the one in front of me. Consequently, I could celebrate my progress one light at a time.
I no longer needed to judge my efforts through the lenses of an all or none expectation. By doing so I could celebrate my success — in the now — instead of being anxious about the next traffic light.
The principle that I used through my experience with the traffic lights — can be applied to daily life. Consequently, I can let go of the need to perfect. As a result, I can relax and take my experience (s) one event at a time. Therefore, I can avoid projecting and in the process stay in the moment. I can let go of my fear in what might be and trust my process. I can learn from my experience, instead of being overwhelmed. I can find freedom from the fear that I won’t get “it” right in the future. I can be free from the undertow of toxic and debilitating shame.
I can let go of the anxiety associated with having to “get it ” right for the rest of my life and I can breathe again…now. Ahhhh!!!
