Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live. I am happy to see that you decided to stop by to visit with me. Earlier today, I was reminded of an injustice that most of us learned starting at an early age. Society assigns more worth to titles than character, to status than to value, to position than to kindness.
This in justice sets each one of us up to become what I have heard described as a human doing. The underlying motivation is to declare that we matter. In essence, we are conditioned to believe that what we do is more important than who we are as individuals.
Consequently, the pursuit of an identity can become the driving force in our lives. In our pursuit we may attach our worth and value to the identity. In the event that we experience a brain injury we may no longer be able to perform the functions of the identity that we have attached our worth and value.
In the process we may see our identity slip away. As a result, we may lose ourselves in despondency and isolation. We may face desperation and reckless disregard for ourselves. We may have convinced ourselves that hope does not exist.
Nevertheless, I have some very good news. You are not alone. I have been there too my friend. Through my experience I have learned a wonderful lesson. I was never created to fulfill an identity. I was created to be to fulfill my destiny. You were not created to fulfill an identity. You were created to be and to fulfill your destiny.
“My mother said to me, “If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.” Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.” Pablo Picasso
If for some reason, you are no longer able to maintain the identity — you or someone else gave you — rejoice. You are not that identity. You are You. Wonderfully you. Revel in that inherent reality. You no longer need to find your vision in that identity. You are free to be. You are free to fulfill your destiny.
“Regardless of your lot in life, you can build something beautiful on it.” Zig Ziglar
