Hello and welcome back to Second Chance to Live my friend. I am happy to see that you made the decision to stop by to visit with me. Today, I want to share something personal with you. For many years of my life I viewed my life’s experiences through the lens of a black and white / all or none thinking. Not only did I view my life’s experience through the eyes of an all or none perspective, but I responded in similar fashion.
As a bi-product of my limiting perspective I found myself hemmed in by external and internal criticism.
Consequently, I experienced alienation. Alienation from other people and alienation from myself. Instead of championing my life and my vision I found myself constricted by the dictates set forth by the confines of a black and white / all or none system. Unrealistic expectations evolved from with in that system. These expectations demanded that I do more and be more with each new day — to the point that my spiritual, emotional and physical energy was held captive. In my attempt to break free from the system, I projected my unrealistic expectations on to all my relationships.
My black and white / all or none thinking held me hostage to judgment. I judged God, my fellows and myself.
In the system, I discovered that my black and white / all or none thinking stymied my ability to love, trust and accept myself because of the unrealistic expectations that I had for myself. My black and white / all or none thinking obstructed my ability to love, trust and accept other people because of the unrealistic expectations that I placed on those individuals. My black and white / all or none thinking disheartened my ability to love, trust and accept my God because He also did not fulfill my expectations.
